È difficile stabilire quali siano i migliori album progressive metal ed è ovvio che qualsiasi “classifica” sarebbe di natura soggettiva. Possiamo tuttavia affermare che tra i migliori album progressive metal vi siano (in ordine alfabetico): Ayreon – The Human Equation, Devin Townsend – Ocean Machine: Biomech, Dream Theater – Images and Words, King’s X – Gretchen Goes To Nebraska, Nevermore – Dreaming Neon Black, Opeth – Blackwater Park, Pain Of Salvation – Remedy Lane, Porcupine Tree – Fear Of A Blank Planet, Riverside – Out Of Myself, Seventh Wonder – Mercy Falls, Sieges Even – The Art Of Navigating By The Stars, Symphony X – V: The New Mythology Suite, Tool – 10,000 Days e molti altri.
La caratteristica che distingue i Wood of Light è la loro continua ricerca di sonorità nuove e che, seppur di ovvie influenze, si distacchi dal sound personale e tipico di questi migliori album progressive metal.
Riguardo all’ultimo LP “Feelikescaping“, la critica non è concorde. Unprogged scrive:
“Per quanto concerne il genere, Feelikescaping propone un prog metal abbastanza classico con chiari riferimenti ai rinomati Dream Theater e Pain of Salvation”.
Di parere opposto è Prog Metal Zone:
“The music is also so unique and excellent that it does feel like a much longer album and that the band also achieved all that they set out to do with this very polished debut. I can’t state this enough but Feelikescaping is a very subtle album that doesn’t hit you over the head with over-the-top theatrics or bombast but upon repeated listens really rewards the listener as he gets to really know the music.”
